Over the last 2 decades, many things have changed around the world. Cell phones have gone from 3 lb. monsters with no capability except calling someone to a pocket-size personal computer. Video games have gone from a barely distinguishable Mario to some of the most amazing life-like graphics that people couldn’t have even imagined a decade ago. For many people though there are things that, as far as they are concerned, remain unchanged throughout the decades. A great example of this is chiropractic care.
Today we will discuss 3 different common misconceptions of what chiropractor care does and does not do. We hope that through this short blog entry you will begin to see how different today’s chiropractic care is from your father’s and grandfather’s experiences.
I passed a sign the other day that read “Backs Cracked Here” for a local chiropractor and I got chills. Crack backs? Is that supposed to elicit a smile and quick turn of my steering wheel? That sounds awful! Rest assured, when you come to Spine and Joint Associates, we will NOT be cracking your back. We take a much broader approach to your needs, and while manipulations are a part of that, so is soft tissue massage, acupuncture, physical rehab, and nutritional advice. We don’t want you to leave our office and feel good for just a day. Our goal is to help you get GET better and then teach you the techniques to manage your own health. You will not be seeing us forever! If you have a flare-up of your condition in the future, then we are only a call away.
The common thought about chiropractic care is that it is only for people with back pain. Nothing could be further from the truth! Did you know that we offer services for women who are pregnant? Did you know that we offer services that can help in smoking cessation? Headaches? Knee and Shoulder Pain? We treat the whole person here at Spine and Joint Associates, and we want to make sure that everyone knows that we are an option and pain is our specialty. We also work closely with many family physicians, pain doctors and other specialists in the area. We will help refer you to get additional care if need be!
You absolutely do not need to get a referral from a doctor to come see us, although, if you get a referral, we will definitely accept it! Some people initially go to see their family doctor or pain specialist and sometimes have to wait or are placed on medications. We offer same-day appointments and are successful in treating the condition quickly so you can get back to your life.
There are many more misconceptions that people have about what we do, and most of it stems back from the time when many in our field simply did just “crack your back”. Rest assured, if you are looking for someone to help you with your pain— someone who cares about you as a person and wants to see you well again, we are the place for you! Give us a call today at (574) 318-7800 and let Spine and Joint help you get you back to feeling like you again!
